We love paper chain countdowns! It’s an easy craft activity for kids - mine love using scissors - and it adds to the fun of waiting for Halloween when you can rip off a link each day.

In our last neighborhood, one of our neighbors had a casual Halloween party every year. On Halloween before trick-or-treating, the neighbors would all hang out in their driveway for dinner and to check out everyone's costumes. It was always one of my favorite parts of the holiday!

We’re trying to bring back trick-or-treating to our neighborhood, so last year we passed out a flyer announcing a Halloween parade starting at our driveway. We had food and drinks out, and played a soundtrack of kid-friendly Halloween music, and it was so cool to see how many neighbors came over. After the parade, all the kids went trick-or-treating as a group, and then hung out together outside. It was really fun - definitely making this an annual tradition!

Make a Halloween playlist (or find a ready-made one), and listen to it throughout October. We have a few streets around us that really go all out with Halloween decorations, and we like to listen to a playlist in the car while we drive around and check them out.

There's a haunted house cookie kit at Trader Joe's that is really fun for kids to make their own gingerbread-style creation. Or you can DIY with graham crackers, orange and black squeeze frosting, candy corn, etc.

When my kids were younger, one of our favorite fun things to do for Halloween was stock up on a big assortment of spooky books from the library, and then enjoy reading them all month long.
