My daughter wants to go trick or treating this Halloween with a group of her friends, sans parents. I remember doing the same when I was her age. Knowing every neighborhood is different, at what age would you feel comfortable letting your kids go trick or treating in a group without parental supervision?

My son began trick-or-treating with his friends (no parents) in 6th grade. One of his friends had a cell phone with him, and we asked them to stay in our neighborhood. Now that he is in 8th grade, he says he is "too old" for trick-or-treating, so it doesn't last long!

I agree, it definitely depends on the neighborhood and how safe the parents feel it is. My 10yo got invited to go walk around with friends in a different neighborhood. My husband and I told him he could do it, but then he said he wants to walk around with us and stay in our neighborhood. I'm sure in a year or two he'll be changing his mind, but for now, I'll take it!

I think I'd allow my kids to go alone in our neighborhood, but not terribly far away. Of course, when one is 12 the other will be 8, so it depends on maturity levels too.

I would trust my 11/12yr old but with everything going on now and days this is kind of a scary thought. I just dont feel like its as safe as it use to be.

I think that it is not safe for children of any age to be walking around on their own without a parent or an adult there to supervise and it needs to be a good neighborhood but where I'm from there aren't any good neighborhoods so this year I know my kids will be upset but we're just going to pass Candy out
