Family Halloween Events in NYC (Map + Calendar!)

HSA presents a full day of Halloween fun with a costume contest, pumpkin decorating, games and treats, plus a screening of Hotel Transylvania.

Expect age-appropriate fun for all kids - little ones can explore a special Halloween Town while the bigger ones brave Monster Alley.

Emily N said:  Join the Queens Botanical Garden for trick or treating, crafts and even a magic show! A great event surrounded by beautiful scenery, what better way to celebrate Halloween than at a garden? Get your cameras ready, the Queens Botanical Garden's mascot, Flora, will be ready for pictures.

Emily N said:  Keep it classic with this Halloween festival where families can enjoy activities for all ages. Visit Transylvania with the younger crowd for pumpkin painting, slime making, spooky Halloween stories and games. For the older set looking for a scare, The Freak Show, featuring classic horror characters-think Freddy Krueger and Jason-will be ready to frighten.

Emily N said:  Celebrate Halloween with a block party hosted by Carnegie Hill Neighbors. The whole block gets into the Halloween spirit, with good reason, trophies are awarded for best decorations and costumes. There will also be a DJ, treats, art projects and a costume procession. The street will be blocked off on 92nd street between Park and Madison Avenues.

Kelly R said:  This spooky after-hours event at the Bronx Zoo is fun for the whole family. Meet creepy animals, listen to a spooky Zoo tale, and embark on a nighttime walk around the zoo. Costumes encouraged!

Jennie Utsinger said:  Stop by Brookfield Place for an afternoon filled with family friendly Halloween activities. Trick or treat, listen to music, watch spooky magic and illusions, and enjoy science tricks and treats! Make sure to come in costume so you can walk the costume catwalk and have your picture taken with a giant LEGO sculpture.

2020 Update: Put on your costume and join the Digital Halloween Bash! There will be family-friendly digital programming, featuring musical performances, puppet show, magician, and a kids cooking class!

Emily N said:  New York City's iconic Halloween parade in the village is a spectacular event but for the little ones who want in on the fun, it can be a little too spooky. Earlier in the day, however, NYU and Manhattan Community Board 2 host the Children's Halloween Parade where the whole family can participate in costumed fun, Halloween games, performances, rides, receive free trick-or-treat bags and make use of them around the neighborhood collecting candy.

For 2020, this event will be virtual. Join the Halloween fun with a magician, musical performance, free downloadable activity book, and a costume contest! The virtual parade will feature a slideshow of some of the costumes and special awards will be given! RSVP is required for login info.

Emily N said:  The popular Manhattan establishment, Asphalt Green, transforms into Asphalt Screams for Halloween with a big celebration which includes lots of games and trick or treating!

Emily N said:  Another classic NYC Halloween event is the Central Park Pumpkin Flotilla. This unique event allows you to bring a carved pumpkin and see it float along the water at twilight. Until then, there are variety of different activities including pumpkin carving, spooky stories, a costume parade and more!

Emily N said:  Put on your Halloween costumes and head to the Queens County Farm Museum's Halloween on the Farm! Take a spooky hayride, find your way through The Amazing Maize Maze, trick-or-treat with the farm animals, make Halloween crafts, and more!

Let's Dress Up NYC said:  There will be no tricks, just treats at our Halloween Tea Party. Wear your own costume or borrow one of ours and join us for all the usual fun (dress up, photo, story) plus a small craft...oh and candy of course!
