Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory
Kristy Pepping: When the weather is not cooperating outside, a date night indoors is a great option. Head to the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory. Here you will find rare and exotic plants. It is the oldest conservatory in the United States so you will get a dose of history on your night out. Explore the different sections of the conservatory and if it's cold outside, the heated Palm House with tropical trees and palms makes for a great stop. Did we mention free admission and parking?
Bon Bon Bon
Kristy Pepping: Instead of eating dinner out for a date night, which can be pricey, just head out for dessert! Stop in to indulge on a few treats, or experience a chocolate-making workshop together. This bonbons not your ordinary freezer dessert staple. They have seasonal offerings as well as flavors like a cereal-inspired one, hazelnut, peanut butter and jelly and more. If you like your chocolate sampling, you can even join their bonbon a month club. Bon Bon Bon also has gluten-free and Vegan options.
Campus Martius
Kristy Pepping: Whether it's winter or summer, a trip to Campus Martius is worth the stop for a fun date night. This park is the first winner of the International Urban Land Institute Urban Open Space Award. During the summer, there is plenty of open park to stroll around with an ice cream in hand or take a seat by the fountain for an in-depth conversation. In the wintertime, lace up those skates and spin around the ice rink. Either way, it will make for a memorable evening out.
Detroit Segway
Kristy Pepping: As busy parents, you are probably running from one kids activity to the next. A car is simply a means to transport the kids! So instead of viewing transportation as a means to "go," why not stroll around town on your next date? Segways are a fun way to meander through downtown Detroit checking out the latest restaurants and stores. Detroit Segway offers several tours all under three hours and you can simply book online.
John K. King Used and Rare Books
Kristy Pepping: When you are a date with your significant other, it's a great chance to get to know each other better. Even if you have been dating or married for a long time, you can always learn more about each other. Head to John K. King for your next adventure out. You'll find a plethora of interesting books. Explore books together or maybe pick a book for each other to read.
The Fowling Warehouse
Kristy Pepping: Fowling is a cross-between bowling, horseshoes and football. Basically, you throw a football and try to knock over the other team's bowling pins. Interested? Then head to the Fowling Warehouse where you can play with your significant other. Afterwards, head to one of the three bar areas for some fun cocktails. Or if beer is your thing, try the "Mystery Beer Machine" offering beer for $2 to $6.
Detroit Experience Factory
Kristy Pepping: Normally on a date, you may go for a stroll hand in hand or maybe even ice cream cone in hand. Instead of just a walk for your next date, take a walk and learn some Detroit history at the same time. Detroit Experience Factory offers several tours. You can choose one of their public tours or design your own. Most of their public tours are easily walkable and will teach you about revitalization, architecture and more. Some tours are even free!
Motown Museum
Kristy Pepping: When you think of museums, you may think of your kids. But museums can also make for great date nights. A trip to the Motown Museum is worth a night out. This museum offers a trip down Motown lane. It showcases the history of Motown with greats like The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Supremes and more. If you want to learn even more, they do offer tours.
Detroit Axe
Kristy Pepping: Do you and your significant other need to get out some aggression or are looking for something truly out of the ordinary? If so, Detroit Axe is for you. This place lets you throw axes at a target. You can test your accuracy and add in a healthy dose of competition. They offer 12 lanes so plenty of room to test your skills. When you are done axe throwing, enjoy over 500 board games and vintage arcade games.
Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle
Kristy Pepping: If you need to laugh a little more, then a comedy show makes for a great date night. The Comedy Castle is a fun night out that offers entertainment from local comedians and where Tim Allen got his start. Or if one of you is a budding comedian (dad jokes, anyone?), they regularly offer open mic nights to test your skills. As for parking, make sure to check their site before going. Sometimes free valet parking will be offered. Food and drinks are available for purchase.
