Best Art Supplies for Kids (Keep These on Hand!)
We're asking all you parents to weigh in with your picks for the must-have art supplies for kids that will get regular use!
Though ready-made craft kits can be lots of fun, kids don't need much to get those creative juices flowing, and having a few simple items on hand will make it easy for them to get crafty whenever the art bug hits (or you are looking for an indoor activity to keep them busy)!
Share your suggestions for the best kids art supplies to keep on hand, and "like" your favorites on the list to make them easier for other parents to discover. We've also got recommendations for supplies and gifts for kids who love to draw, if that becomes a special passion!
PlayColor Basic Paint Sticks
C. Wal said: This is an excellent paint product for kids of any age. These function like glue sticks, but have a beautifully vibrant and smooth application with zero flaking when dry. Very little pressure is needed to apply bold color, but not easily smooshed. Great for poster making, decorating box forts, basic paper, easel painting, and anything else you can dream up. Very washable and no paint brushes necessary.
Sold in extra thick, thin, or standard and other colors. The product needs to be securely closed, or they will dry up. Otherwise, they will be long lasting and loads of fun.

Crayola Washable Watercolors
Kelly R said: My young artists really enjoy watercolors. Easy to use, easy to set up, and easy to clean up!

Sago Brothers Magic Clay
Erynn said: We got this after my boys (and I!) struggled with oven-dry clay--it tended to dry out on its own, but not thoroughly enough! This clay is soft and pliable but less messy than other varieties we've tried. The fact that it comes with a few tools and resealable bags means making clay creations is easier than ever. The range of colors is super fun, too.

Wikki Stix
These wax covered sticks are non-toxic, soft and pliable, and can be twisted to make shapes, 3-D sculptures and much more.
Aquash Water Brushes
C. Wal said: Water color brushes on the go make for very little clean-up and convenient en plein air painting. Any child who has decent fine motor skills will learn quickly how to apply pressure to the handle to squeeze water out of the bristles. No need for water cups and spills. These brushes are sturdy and make using all water soluble materials a little less intimidating when the clean up is less daunting. Suitable to use for water color pencils, water color crayons, water colors, dry tempera paint, and others.
Craft Sticks
Erin P. said: Craft sticks are a versatile craft supply to keep in your closet! Your little ones can use them to make puppets, build frames, and create craft stick dolls, among other things.
