Let's compile a roundup of healthy snacks for school that will keep the kids going until it's time for lunch. Snack time is a great way to fit in extra nutrition (especially fruits and veggies!), but sometimes it's hard to come up with creative combinations that the kids will enjoy. Snacks that need to stay cold can be packed in a cooler lunch box with an ice pack. What are your favorite healthy snack ideas for school?

We just discovered these this year, and did not know what we were missing! My kids love them, and I love that I can get them at Costco.

Clementines. Our school requires that snacks be fruits or veggies "in their own skin" (so, no applesauce), and while we often rotate through different fruits depending on what the kids are into at the time, clementines are my favorite because they are easy to grab and go with no effort (plus, sweet and tasty!). Though most are easy enough for kids to peel, when the kids were younger I sometimes pulled up an end of the peel for them to make it even easier.

Regular string cheese or Babybel® brand cheese transports well inside the backpack. Maybe include some wheat crackers, too?

Lenny & Larry's The Complete Cookie® - this gluten-free, vegan cookie is quite high in protein (16g) and lower in sugar (given its size and compared "real" cookies). We currently pick this up at Trader Joe's.

Homemade trail mix. Super easy to mix a kid's favorite snacks together and easy to leave ingredients out if your child has nut allergies.

Roasted chick peas - crunchy, crispy and come in many different packaged flavors like: sea salt, bbq, sweet, spicy, etc.

This sounds yummy, where do you usually get them?

      •   -   08/25/2019

Our Costco has them, and I believe Trader Joe’s does too.

Trader Joe's plantain chips with guacamole

Whole wheat fig bars - except you want to read the labels to discover which brand is right for you. Aim for brands that promote higher fiber, less sugar.

Jerky - there are so many high quality varieties these days!

My kids love dried seaweed! We've tried a bunch of brands and their favorite is the sea salt variety from Trader Joe's.
