We started talking about it when my daughter was 6 and my son 9. If kids express a curiosity about it, I don't think it's ever too early to start discussing it.

Completely agree! I've found that the topic has come up naturally even when my kids were pretty young (e.g. "what are those?" referring to feminine hygiene products in the shopping cart); whenever it has, we've taken the opportunity to talk with them about it, answering whatever questions they have at that moment. The conversations have gotten more detailed as they've gotten older, but it's sort of been a long-term conversation, which has made it very easy and natural.

Our school makes it mandatory for all fifth graders to attend a school seminar so I decided to have this talk with my fifth grader as well as have her read a few books before she attended this seminar. I would rather her feel prepared/informed from me rather than a third party.

My kids, ages 8 and 10, have not asked about puberty yet and as far as I know, there is nothing planned at school. I will discuss it when they ask which I feel will be within the next couple of years.

Really? Your school doesn’t cover the topic? Our district starts talking about it in 4th Grade and then again in 5th grade.

I've always been open with my kids about stuff but only gave them what they needed to know at that age. My daughter has asked questions because she sees what goes on with me and about the feminie products and she's 10. My son knows too because I think it's important for him to be sensitive to what women go through! He started asking questions at around 10 maybe. But, he's so private and quiet, if ask if he's having things change (outside of the voice that I can here) he gets all red and doesn't answer.

My 10yo had his annual check up and his pediatrician brought it up and recommended a book for him to read. Within 5 minutes of reading the book, my son had asked my husband about 20 questions. Lol! Guess it’s better to discuss is at home so he prepared when they talk about it at school in 4th and 5th grades.
