Soda, pop, Coke ... whatever you call it, do you allow younger, elementary-aged kids to drink it?

My oldest always hated soda. He’d call it “too spicy”. Then in 1st Grade his teacher had a special treat for one of the holidays which included sprite. He was hooked after that. Thanks school.

My kids get sips of their dad's sometimes, but otherwise, they don't drink soda. I do allow other sweet treats, soda's just on our no-no list.

We don't keep soda in the house, but allow it on rare occasions when we go out. We've enjoyed our Soda Stream when we're in the mood for something bubbly - the kids like adding apple or grape juice, or lemon and a packet of stevia.

Rarely, my older girls don’t like it at all. My boys always ask for it. We allow soda without caffeine on special occasions.

Same. It's more of a "on occasion, special treat" for our older kids. Mostly they take sips of ours, but once in a long while they get their own serving of caffeine free soda!

Gonna hold off on soda as long as possible! We are mostly seltzer water drinkers anyway so we rarely have it in the house- hopefully that will help!

My son's last teacher was a big Diet Coke fan and always had it around so my son started asking for it to be like her. I let him try it once after a lot of begging but he didn't like it. Unfortunately he has developed a love for Gatorade and that drives me bonkers.

Seriously. Gatorade can be just as bad as soda and my boys love it too. I only allow it in the summers or if they are totally exhausted after playing a sport.

OMG so much sugar in Gatorade! The obsession just developed during summer camp and my goal is to limit it to an occasional drink after sports once school starts. I got him a Gatorade brand water bottle and he's been carrying that around all week, pretending his water is Gatorade. I know that will last only so long though!

We're a hard no. I guess I just fear my kids bouncing off the walls hopped up on caffeine & sugar. We'd never recover! :-)

Not really, though I do allow my older kids to take sips of mine once in a while :)

My oldest two have both tried it and neither of them liked it so that was it.

That's awesome! I was shocked that my daughter has been gravitating towards savory rather than sweet foods at 1 year old. I hope the same goes for soda!

We don't have it in the house but do allow it when we're out to eat in a restaurant, as long as there is no caffeine and any refills are water. They usually opt for lemonade but sometimes choose root beer or sprite. I consider it a treat :)

I let them choose lemonade when we are out at a restaurant, but usually they opt for chocolate milk.

Same rule at our house. Only at restaurants. My boys like root beer or sprite but will also opt for lemonade or even milk on occasion.
