Virginia Wouldn't Slow Down

Virginia Apgar grew up in the early 1900s with a determination to succeed and the belief she could do anything she set her mind to. She worked hard to pay her own way while going to college and medical school, eventually becoming a doctor and one of the first anesthesiologists in the United States. She worked in labor and delivery, helping mothers with the pain of childbirth. She discovered not many doctors knew how to care for the newborns so she invented a method to check their health using five tests, later becoming the APGAR Score, which was created using her last name by another doctor in 1961. The APGAR Scale has saved many babies over the decades since Virginia's invention and is used around the world to test babies at birth. Virginia Apgar is an inspiration to females around the world as she overcame many obstacles and worked hard to achieve success and in turn, has saved the lives of countless babies around the world.

The Crayon Man

This colorful true story will delight children as they learn how Edwin Binney was inspired to invent crayons in the late 1800s. Edwin and his team worked by trial and error, determination and hard work for the sole benefit of children to allow them to create art.

The book also reveals how Edwin's wife, Alice came up with the name "Crayola" using two different French words. As a bonus, children will also learn how Crayola Crayons are made today!

Carter's

I've always found quality merchandise and great deals at Carter's. They offer a wide range of sizes from baby to adult, including family matching outfits. Many of their clothing items are all cotton which I love, especially their super soft pajamas. They also have great sales and doorbusters to stretch your dollar, along with free shipping options.

Pool Noodles

My kids loved using foam noodles before they became expert swimmers. With adult supervision, the noodles help them learn to swim while keeping them afloat so they practice their kicks and arm movements in the water. *Note these are not a substitute for life jackets.

I Funny by James Patterson is a sweet and funny story starring middle school comedian Jamie Grimm, who just so happens to be in a wheelchair. Nothing stops Jamie including going after his dream of being the world's greatest comedian. This is a series followed by I Even Funnier and I Totally Funniest. Hershey's Chocolate World Tour

My kids and I had a blast here during Spring Break! They loved the interactive show, 4D movie, trolley ride, making their own candy bar with personalized label, ride, free candy and learning all about Milton Hershey and how he created Hershey's Chocolate. It was interesting to learn how he persevered and overcame failures to create such a successful empire, including the Milton Hershey School.

Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales

My middle school boys love the Hazardous Tales series by Nathan Hale. The books are straight-up history told through a comic book like manner with fun and jokes along the way. They are learning about historical events in an entertaining manner and literally stay up late reading these books and not wanting to put them down. Some of the topics include the Underground Railroad, World War I and II, The Alamo, Cold War and more.

Chess

My 13 year old son loves to play chess. He has played at library game groups (even with adults) and now participates in a chess club at school. It is a game of skill and concentration and challenges the mind and can be played in person with others or online. It is a game that he can carry into adulthood as well!
